What Does it Mean to Promote the General Welfare

What does it mean to you exactly when you read the words of the preamble ... “We the people of these United States of America, in order to form a more perfect union, insure domestic tranquility and to promote the general welfare, do hereby ordain and establish this Constitution for these United States of America”?

Does it mean that we need to expand the welfare roles until such a time as everyone is receiving welfare? Does it mean that we have to work to insure equality in results? Does it mean that we have to centralize all of the power into a bloated and inefficient federal governmental body that holds sway over the states and we the people?

Those questions may seem pretty outrageous to any right-minded person ... pun intended ... but there are many people in the nation who actually do believe them. Far too many people believe such nonsense for us to be complacent in or with their ignorance.

If silence on the part of Muslims somehow or another equates to condoning or support for their actions, does not the great silence of the right indicate that we either support ... or at the very least, condone the actions being taken to convert our nation into a socialist “democracy”?

The logic and the reasoning are the same even if you do not agree.

The fact is that we are just as responsible for the success of the left as they are. We have remained silent while they have succeeded in taking over our schools, in taking over our states, in relinquishing our freedoms and our liberties and in turning our individual and state’s rights over to the bloated and inefficient federal body politic.

Since we cannot expect the left to steer the nation away from this ever-steeper and slippery slope down the path to destruction, it is we the people who must force the nation away from its present course.

There is no more time to wait. There is no more “next election” or “next time” or “later”. If we fail to act now, we are doomed to whatever fate belies us in accordance with the thoughts and beliefs of those we have allowed to remain in control.

I do not know about you, but I am not personally prone to awaiting my fate based on the status quo ... especially when the status quo is what it is these days. It is time that we the people make a stand.

To some degree, this has already begun. We have the TEA Party movement which has to some degree at least, been relatively successful. It is not nearly enough however. The Lame Stream Media is never going to give us the press that we need to succeed so it is up to us to get the word out.

Far too many people equate conservatives to comedians ... think Sarah Palin and Tina Fey ... and far too many people mistake comedians for actual news broadcasters ... think Stephen Colbert and Bill Maher ... and this is far from comedic ... some would even call it tragic.

Like those people preaching the Good News of God’s Kingdom, we must be vigilant, look for opportunities to speak up ... and sadly, to realize that we cannot win every fight and to even win a few battles, is going to be a struggle beyond belief for most people right now.

The price for our silence now will rest in never-ending oppression if we do not start fighting immediately.

If someone simply wants to argue, there is no room for debate.

Let them know though, when they can get past the Kindergarten name-calling and discuss facts, you are ready to speak.

Make them look like the bad guys they are when all they can resort to is childish tactics.

Do not join them in the mud and expect to walk away clean and un-smeared.

When the American founding fathers spoke of promoting the general welfare, they meant insuring that our basic rights and liberties were not infringed upon by an oppressive federal government mad with a lust for power and control.

They meant insuring that we the people would be free to keep the toils of our own labors and not be forced or coerced into the support of others through oppressive means and threats of incarceration or other legal ramifications.

Even Ben Franklin, with all his ability to manipulate men, believed that it was up to the individual to contribute what they could and even that was done on the local level so as to improve their own community.

Promoting the general welfare ... especially in a nation of law, is all about insuring that we the people receive equal protection under the law and are subject to the law equally.

It does not mean whoever has the better liar for a lawyer can win no matter how guilty they may be.

It means that justice is blind, but if anything, justice has become blinded by conviction rates for political gain instead of a search for truth and justice. Justice used to mean that if a lawyer was found to be lying or even intentionally twisting the truth, they were just as liable to wind up on perjury charges as anyone else who was sworn to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Perhaps most importantly, promoting the general welfare means remembering that we the people, are the fourth and final branch of government and as such, are every bit as much responsible for what we allow politicians to get away with as they are for actually doing it.

An uneducated and ill-informed society will never be able to control its government officials, much less govern itself efficiently and in a manner that is anything less than opening the door to oppression and tyranny.

We have but a very short time to find a united front. Sadly, that front is not going to be headed by any democrat or republican if we want to actually change the status quo and save our nation. It is time to look for some serious alternatives and remember that as long as we are united, we can survive.

If we are to initiate a change at the ballot box, we have to come up with a viable alternative to the problems that we face in the nation today. Elections, whether on the local or state or even national level, all have consequences and we are experiencing the forefront of those consequences now.

Either we rectify the situation our nation is in now or we lose her forever. If everybody who thought their vote was wasted by voting for a third party candidate actually voted for a third party candidate, perhaps those votes would not only “not be wasted” but would ring out as loudly and clearly as the liberty bell did upon our declaration of independence in 1776.

As long as we allow the government to control us as they have, they are going to continue to do so.

As long as we remain in the rat race, the only thing we can be certain of is that we will continue to be rats. In this case, little experimental lab rats so busy running around the proverbial maze that we never bother to get outside the box long enough to remember that we are the ones controlling the experiments and we alone are the ones that must be answered to.

We are all currently so busy working for the government that we seemed to have collectively forgotten that the government works for us.

The two party system as it has devolved, is nothing more than a glorified and single-purpose rat race designed to keep the rats trapped while they gleefully hop around on our dime outside of the maze.

When you are ready to start promoting the general welfare, you must start with yourself and you must learn everything that you can about the government, how it functions ... how it is supposed to function at least, and even politics.

Only then will you be able to do your civic duty and remember, the only way the federal government can be held accountable is if we the people hold it accountable. The only way for us to do that is to know the game and know how to win it.

Until we can do that, there will be no general welfare to promote.

Let us know what you think please!
